The organization we choose is News Publication.
1. Why should this organization go virtual?
News publication organizations are responsible to report the daily news. And the news will happen suddenly everyday. That means new news will change and happen every minute. Therefore, time is very important for timely news. News publication should report the news in real time so that reader can know the updated information. However, there is one day time delay in existing news publication nowadays. That means newspaper of today is reporting the news yesterday. In order to tackle this problem, the organization should go virtual. News publications can update their information though the internet. This makes the news can report in real time. So reader can read the latest news by serving internet. Also, paper is the main material in publication. Publishing the news in internet can save the cost of paper work.
2. Who are the parties and what are their roles?
Human Recourse – find the most suitable person on the position News information department – database to store news information Advertisement – major income & let more people to make advertisement Printing – for publishing the newspaper Delivery – disturb the newspaper to different region Financial centre – focus on financial news and the stock market etc
3. What are their core competencies?
One of the core competencies of a company within News publication is the organization culture. This is one of the hardest thing for other companies to copy. They may hire your reporters and learn your new technology, but the culture is hard to copy. Once a company develop a good organization culture, it is difficult to lose it. Another core competency is the relationship. New publication require a lot of confidential information. If the company did maintain a good relationship with celebrities, it is more likely that their news would be more powerful that others can’t compete with.
4. What technologies should be used for efficiency / for coordination?
Database Since we are news publication, we have a lot of pictures and document most of the time. Then, if we step up database, it can supply every department for working. Also, FTP can be also setup up for let the organization go virtual. The editors or reporters can though the FTP to access the database in everywhere although they are at home, traveling and so. Networking & Internet Besides, the employee can communicate with each other though the Internet technologies. For example, when the reporter finished his passage at home, he could send it by e-mail to the editor. Also, they can also communicate with each other though the MSN.
5. who has the upper hand?
As we choose the news publication industry , the major company group, who has a series of department for collecting up-to-date news ,delivering their prints, owns their own workshop for printing ,and excellent reporters who write articles with a insightful view ,so that the company gains a really large scale sales record.
